How long have you been taking photos?
I started taking photography classes when I was 17 in highschool and continued studying in college. I did 3 years in Chicago and a year in Paris. Even with a few skeptics I knew that’s what I wanted to do in life, be a photographer.
How did you get into wedding photography?
I always wanted to get into fashion. I loved photographing people and I loved being in a studio. I quit my job at a small studio to start up my own company. But the realisation of costs involved with owning a studio pushed me into a different direction. Colin and I had recently got married and I absolutely loved the style of our wedding photos. It was the mix of seeing how wedding photography could be more creative and not being able to own my own studio that pushed me to be a wedding photographer. And now that’s all I want to do!
What is it that you love about wedding photography?
I’ve recently discovered what really inspires me with photography and that’s telling stories. What greater story than of love? I love the interaction and passion between a couple. I’m also a detail freak and can’t get enough of cakes, dresses, shoes, flowers, anything pretty!
How would you describe your photography style?
A slightly prettier version of reality. I definitely like to capture emotion. I love a little bit of movement in a photo. But mostly natural, soft, and simple.
Your favourite moment of a wedding?
Tough question! I have 2 favourite times of the wedding. In the morning when the bride gets ready, so many lovely details to photograph, and the time I get to spend with just the couple.
Do you have a favourite wedding photo?
Nope. Every wedding gives me a new favourite photo!
What advice would you give to couples when choosing their wedding photographer?
Be sure their style reflects your style. And definitely meet with potential photographers. You should feel comfortable with your photographer. Not everyone is the right fit! If you can’t meet in person arrange a phone chat or skype.
And is there any advice you give to couples you work with about their wedding day?
Take advantage of an engagement or pre-wedding shoot with your photographer. You will know what to expect on the wedding day. Trust your photographer and also don’t take too many family/group shots as it will seriously eat into your time on the day. Lastly, take a few portraits as the sun is setting. That time of day will give you amazing photos!
Your favourite wedding photography trend of the moment?
I love how wedding photography has become more relaxed and fun. And also I love the strong focus on details. Otherwise I’d say don’t follow trend, create your own!
Your favourite location/ destination that you have photographed for a wedding?
West Cork has some really amazing locations such as Bantry. It’s beautiful there. Also the South of France. I had a wedding there and the scenery was incomparable. But anywhere can look stunning with the right couple at the right time of day! or to make an enquiry to Brosnan Photographic click here
